There was nothing wrong with this dish, but in the end it didn’t really excite me very much. The chicken smelled and tasted amazing after it had been, browned in butter and poached in white wine. But the mushroom cream sauce with the additional lobster almost seemed like detractors. It’s a flavour palette that’s quite common in the book and not necessarily the most engaging.
This was a nice cucumber salad to accompany some Dutch colonial food. Nothing spectacular but nice all the same.
Pretty straight forward pork skewers, perhaps a little salty following the directions. But still a nice, honest dinner with steamed rice, Dutch beer, and a cucumber salad.
Of all the recipes I will surprise my girlfriend with, with this book. None excite her quite so much as a steak and potatoes dinner. This 2lb steak sliced into portions was a very fine piece of meat and made a very satisfying weeknight dinner with some buttered potatoes. However the gravy itself, wasn’t overly impressive. Kind of weak and forgettable. This is the kind of dish that worked well but isn’t necessarily worth revisiting.
A very delicious salad that I think would work well as a summer luncheon dish. I actually went through the effort to julienne all my ingredients, it’s not necessary though. I think this dish would actually go well quite on its own without any lettuce. I’ll definitely return to this one again I think.
More of a pie than a cake and thick as a brick to boot. Very rich, very sweet, very dense. I don’t think I’ll be doing this one again.
To accompany our festive veal roast for Christmas I hunted down some white asparagus to make this peculiar dish of asparagus served in an egg & nutmeg sauce. It was ok, though the white asparagus was rather fibrous.
